All About the Mission - June 1
If I could sky write the name of every business participating in this year’s Students2Work Program, I would. 36 businesses will be hosting 70 students starting next week which represents an investment of nearly $200,000 in the future workforce of this region and the future dreams of students. This is far more than we expected this year of companies already challenged to take on more responsibility in their workplace.
The Students2Work Program, now in its 5th year, continues to be the model for 1 student + 1 job = it just takes 2. Just as envisioned 5 years ago, Students2Work is a road map for students to apply their talents, earn a paycheck, gain independence and self-reliance and accelerate their future. Students enrolled in this year’s program come from every high school in the Richmond County School System and as I stated in an earlier blog this month, are some of the most poised and eager students we have had since the program started.
The variety of internships this year is also impressive. From manufacturing to healthcare; construction to logistics; professional services including insurance and law firms to non-profits in the arts and health and human services; each and every student in this year’s cohort will receive unique and meaningful experiences designed to open their minds, their hearts and their dreams.
To each of our businesses and organizations who stepped up this year to help shape a young mind, we say thank you. It’s all about your mission this week and the commitment you have made to shape our future.
