Third Thursday Business Builder Offering Guidance on GDOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program
The Augusta Metro Chamber's November Third Thursday Business Builder webinar will offer guidance on the benefits and eligibility of the Georgia Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program (DBE). On Thursday, November 19, Kimberly A. King with the Georgia Department of Transportation will present an overview of the DBE program, inform you of the benefits, and share guidance concerning eligibility. Ms. King will also propose resources available through the State Supported Funding Program (SSFP) Business Help Center and how you can take advantage of these opportunities to provide your business visibility.
Kimberly A. King is the Equal Employment Opportunity Director for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Since joining the department in December 2012, Kimberly has worked hard to brand the EEO division as a professional, knowledgeable and responsive unit to the Agency. Tasked with oversight for all aspects of the Agency’s civil rights function, it has been an important part of Kimberly’s mission to ensure that EEO and civil rights considerations maintain a “seat at the table” in terms of the overall Agency function. Kimberly strongly believes that civil rights ought not to be “silo-ed” within EEO, but rather should be a vital consideration in all aspects of the Agency’s business activity. In order to maintain that position, Kimberly and her team ensure that their customer service to both internal and external customers as well as their understanding of the EEO function relative to the Programs administered by the division are clearly and effectively communicated whenever requested.
During her tenure, Kimberly has led the unit in a number of accomplishments. They include recognitions from the American Public Works Association, for the creation of a Business Resource Center to assist DBEs and small businesses to get engaged in GDOT project activity, the Greater Atlanta Economic Alliance’s Agency Award for Best Practices in DBE Certification and Supportive Services assistance and the National Association of Minority Contractor’s Excellence in Customer Service Award.
