Students 2 Work Program Receives Recognition from Augusta-Richmond County Commission
On Tuesday, August 21, the Augusta-Richmond County Commission recognized the Students 2 Work program, an initiative between the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, Richmond County School System and Augusta, Georgia Government. In its inaugural year, the initiative provided 122 high school students with 8-week paid summer internships thru 74 employers investing over $250,000 in workforce development in the greater Augusta region.
Participating businesses included All-State Insurance - O’Neal Agency, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Auben Realty, Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center, Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Municipal Golf Course, Augusta Office Solutions, Augusta Partnership for Children, Augusta-Richmond County Juvenile Court, Augusta Technical College, Augusta University, Augusta Warrior Project, Blanchard & Calhoun, Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA, Byrd Consulting, Cranston Engineering, CSRA Alliance for Ft. Students 2 Work, an initiative of the Business Education Advisory Council (BEAC), provides high school students with opportunities to gain valuable hands-on work experience in local businesses within the metro Augusta area. The BEAC, an Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce committee, pinpoints ways in which the business community can support the Richmond County School District in three key goal areas including higher graduation rates, academic achievement, and local workforce development.
